Christmas Pop Songs

All the jingle bells, Santa tell me’s and Christmas wishes in harmonies have been on repeat in our room for a good while now (mixed with a bit of ABBA and Hamilton of course). I thought I hated non-traditional, modern Christmas songs, but I realised it was just because that’s what you were “supposed” to do. And that’s a way of thinking of music (and life) I hate. So, here are a few songs from my “Maybe this Christmas…” playlist that I love, with a more new and modern sound. Music is always music, and that’s lovely.

  • Santa Tell Me – Ariana Grande
  • Mistletoe – Justin Bieber
  • Christmas Lights – Coldplay
  • Shake up Christmas – Train
  • Last Christmas – Ariana Grande
  • Happy Christmas (War is Over) – Maroon5
  • Winter Wonderland/Don’t Worry Be Happy – Pentatonix
  • Text Me Merry Christmas (feat. Kristen Bell) – Straight No Chaser
  • One More Sleep – Leona Lewis
  • Intro (to Christmas & Chill, plus whole album) – Ariana Grande
  • Snow in Californa – Ariana Grande

This is not all the xmas music I listen to, but some of the xmas pop songs I love. Hope you enjoy! What do you listen to right now?

My own Christmas music

Enjoyment, Inspiration

Throughout December (actually it all begins in mid-November…) the radio stations terrorises us (read me) with awful Christmas music. I’m sorry but I can’t stand the “All I want’s”, “Red-nosed” and “Last Christmases”. So this year I will make my own Christmas music. Correction; I will listen to selected music during December thus making it Christmas music.

I know it probably doesn’t make much sense but I gave this idea some thought and now I’m practicing it. The Christmas music of 2016  consists of five records:

  • Dirty Dancing (The Original Soundtrack)
  • More Dirty Dancing (Even more music from the film Dirty Dancing)
  • Hair (The Original Soundtrack from the musical Hair)
  • Flashdance (The Original Soundtrack)
  • Top Gun (The Original Soundtrack)

And there you have it. Don’t ask me why it’s so 70’s and 80’s; I don’t know either. So if you’re like me just remember – you can make your own Christmas music!

J’s Summer Reading Plans

Now that school is finally over and I’m officially in summer mode (bring out the fruit drinks, sunglasses and bathing suits everybody!) I am planning on reading a lot more. I blame the excessive amount of stress school caused for not reading lately. My love for books survived the recent reading-break however, and this summer I will try and prioritize books over other things with less life-altering value. So I thought to motivating myself even more, I would post a list of some books I plan to read this summer (or at least in a nearby future):

  • the Harry Potter-series (I plan on re-reading as many of them as I can!)
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (If I decide on reading it before seeing the play)
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray (started reading it but never finished it)
  • Allegiant (!!! I’ve put this off for quite some time now)
  • Fangirl (read Eleanor&Park a while back and loved it!)
  • Anna and the French Kiss (M recommended it!)
  • On the Other Side (I adore Carrie and this book seems amazing)

I know for some this list is very short, and for others it might be very long (in fact I think for me it is too long and I probably have too much faith in my own fast-reading abilities) but I actually don’t care… I will mainly just use this list as inspiration, and I hope it might inspire others to check out a few of the books or start reading more! Happy Summer!

Best Contemporary Stand Alone Books

Hello, how are you? I was wondering if after all these days I would get it together and write a blogpost. I had planned on posting a pancake recipe a few weeks ago, but now it feels outdated and I can’t remember the recipe.

So instead I thought I would share my top ten contemporary books. At first I thought this would be quite an easy post to write but now I realise that I’m not really sure what qualifies as a contemporary. Is Anna and the French Kiss a stand alone contemporary novel? Because in a way it is but you could see it as part of a series because Anna appears in both Lola and the Boy Next Door and Isla and the Happily Ever After… I have the same problem with The Giver… Because there are three complementary book after the first one and I don’t know if that make them count as a series or not… Anyway I should stop rambling about unimportant stuff and get to it.

M’s top 10 contemporary stand alone books

The Book Thief

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Since you’ve been gone

An Abundance of Katherines

Fly on the Wall

All the Bright Places

The Boy Next Door

Food, Girls and Other Things I Can’t Have

I wouldn’t say these books are life changing but they are enjoyable reads. Also it has been a while since I read some of these books and I have probably forgotten how I felt when I read them… I do still remember reading The Book Thief, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Fly on the Wall and also Since you’ve been gone. They are all great and I love them in different ways. I remember thinking that The Book Thief was a book I had to bring when I get my own place. Whilst reading Aristotle and Dante and Since You’ve Been Gone I found myself relating to the characters in some way even though my life is nothing like Ari’s. Since You’ve Been Gone also became a sort of inspiration… The book made me want to get out of my comfort zone and buy disposable cameras. Anyways I’m rambling again… I’ll stop now… I do strongly recommend each of these books, some are quite sad and others are funny but they are all heartwarming.

(I realise that my two lastest post have both been lists… oops sorry! And sorry for taking forever to write a new blogpost, fortunately you have K och J who are- for the time being- a lot more active on our blog!)

A Mix of Music For Your Enjoyment

You probably haven’t noticed but this week we have added a new category called enjoyment to our escape plans. In this category we will put bloggpost about books, music, movies etc.

To celebrate this new category I have decided to make a playlist. The songs on the playlist are either all time favourites of mine or songs I have been loving these last few weeks.

So here goes, twelve songs I have been enjoying:

No Drama Queen – Grouplove
My Type – Saint Motel
Between the bars – Elliott Smith
BLUE – Troye Sivan
Heroes – David Bowie
Swingin Party – Kindness
LOST BOY – Troye Sivan
Riptide – Vance Joy
Monster – Paramore
BITE – Troye Sivan
Urban Photograph – Urban Cone
Misguided Ghosts – Paramore

I realise this is a strange mix between different types of music. It might be because I like most kinds of music, of course I have some I prefer more then others -like folk pop -but that doesn’t stop me from listening to all kinds of music.
